Buffet “R-13” Clarinet
This is a professional model instrument which some consider to be the "gold standard" of clarinets. This particular R-13 was made in 1974 which was a very good year. Why? These clarinets are all made of grenadilla wood. In my opinion, newer clarinets of this caliber do not let the grenadilla wood season, or dry out, enough before thay use it to make an instrument. This is a problem because the wood has a tendancy to split, mainly in the upper joint. However, the grenadilla wood that this horn was made from was well seasoned. Plus, after 43 years of being played, if the wood hasn't split yet......it isn't going to split. On top of that the wood has been taken care of quite nicely. The clarinet was just recently repadded with Valentino synthetic pads, which are very durable, and it plays great. If it's time for you to move up from your student model clarinet then this could be your new instrument. Of course it does come in its original case and with the original Buffet mouthpiece.
